What is the Twitter feed?
I’m sorry for any confusion arising from the recent addition of the twitter feed to this blog. Twitter hasn’t exactly become mainstream so I guess it might need some explanation.
For some time now (I don’t know, maybe a year or so), a web 2.0 application, known as Twitter, has been providing a way of tracking your friends. If you set up an account with Twitter you can post regularly to let people know what you are up to at any given time. Some people, who use the web for business, use Twitter to provide their customers with up to the minute information. I know of podcasters who post to twitter to help their listeners know when the latest edition of their show is up. However, the most common use is just to keep your friend abreast of what’s going on.
I use it through my instant messenger service. I use Google Talk most commonly for my instant messaging, though I use a client software called Pidgin which allows me to connect to a number of different IM services simultaneously. I can IM my GTalk buddies, ICQ friends, Yahoo buddies, etc. all from the same application. I can also submit a quick message to Twitter that will be posted on my twitter site.
I just added a plugin to my blog that will post all the previous days messages once a day. When you see my twitter feed, that is what you are seeing: the updates that I posted throughout the previous day.
I hope that explains it. If you are the kind of person I am and have to join all the "new" things, you probably already know about twitter. If you are interested in signing up or following me, other than through this blog, check out the Twitter site for more information.
