Going In Reverse

Today, we did something a little different. We had backwards day. It really wasn’t that big of a deal. We had Spaghetti for breakfast, Sandwiches for lunch, and Pancakes for supper. Most of the day was really fairly normal. The other biggest difference was that the kids did not watch cartoons all morning as has become the norm as of late. Instead, we played together a lot. We ended the day by watching the Polar Express all curled up together on the living room floor. It was a fun day. And, Scott even folded the socks (& the rest of the laundry) this afternoon!!

Zachary reached an important milestone today. We were playing with his megablocks in his room. He was standing next to this big wagon full of blocks, but was not holding on to the wagon. Well, I am always trying to come up with ways to encourage him to walk. So, I moved the wagon a couple feet away from him. Usually, he would get down on his hands and knees and crawl over to the wagon. Not tonight though. He very tentatively took two steps toward the wagon, stood still a moment, and then got down on his hands and knees and crawled the rest of the way to the wagon. As he was doing this, I yelled out “he’s walking!” to Scott who had left the room with Emily for just a moment. They came running in and Zachary gave a repeat performance. He then began to express his dislike of me taking his block wagon away from him, and would not walk anymore. So, he took 4 steps today! And, despite it being “backwards” day, they were forward steps…

We’ll have to keep the camera handy tomorrow…

Oh, the joys of paranthood. For the first couple of years we can hardly wait for our children to learn to walk and talk. Then we spend the next 18 years telling them to sit down and be quiet.
