It’s Christmas Eve. Mom’s birthday is today, so I woke up thinking of her more than about Christmas Eve. I guess that’s just been programmed into me after all these years. When we were all up and about this morning, I made the Happy Birthday call to mom and we visited for a bit.
After a couple hours of reminding the kids it wasn’t time to open presents yet, it was time for lunch. It is a tradition here to have a meal of shrimp, cheeseball and crackers, veggies, and such on Christmas, and we had that once again. It was delicious! I am delighted that all the kids have now come around to eating shrimp. That hasn’t always been the case.
After lunch, we sang Happy Birthday to Jesus and had cake. Emily and Grandmama read the Christmas story from the bible, and then we opened presents. Then we all spent some time figuring out what we had received (trying on and modeling new clothes / jackets, rounding up batteries, looking through books) and just enjoying each others company.
After supper (round 2 from lunch), it was soon time for the kids to bathe and go to bed. Scott read them the Night Before Christmas, and then we reminded them that they needed to sleep soon so Santa would come. They were all asleep by the third time we checked on them. I am sure they have visions of sugar plums (whatever that is!) dancing in their heads.
We’ll have to see what tomorrow brings. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
